New life for Leica R lenses
« on: August 15, 2009, 07:35:52 pm »

I debated the lens/camera vs MF on this, but I can put a cross ref in an R thread.

This really started because I wanted REACH with MF-I have the 350mm superach on a Contax with P65+
and am a bit wanting more

Here is a 150' (about 50m) distance with the Leica R modular and the P65+

The bad news, well of course, some vignetting

but the good news since we all crop to the bird, or animal, well nhow about the equivalent of a 2000mm lens with 240 prints to 8x10?

here it is:

Bad news, the full image

Then the crop--

why in the world would you not just take any canon fullframe with an r-2-eos adapter for this kind of stuff?

Lower bit depth, AA filter, for two reasons.  I'm sure there are others.  I'd rather use a DMR though.

Actually, that's what I would normally use. However, the DMR is 10MP and the conon's are 22MP, with only 5 and 10 in the center area. Since many wildlife shots I need to crop (WDR Telyt, very few people have YOUR talent for getting close, admit it   )
With this arrangement and a 60MP camera, I have 40MP where I want them not 5-10MP. In magnification terms this means 2x to 3x improvement in detail, no shabby amount.

The first shot is an 800mm image! That tells you how far I was, and yet you can see into the cardinal's mouth.

Now, with the DMR I could get closer by 2x but with the 800mm lens?  I don't think so.

It was an experiment, and not sure how practical, but except for the 400mm 6.8 and the R9/DMR and Telyt like skills it is a challenge to get close to wildlife (and I don't mean guy's shooting moose crossing the road! I can do that with my M8 28mm  LOL)

regards
Victor

PS
Telyt-good to see you here, and yes, the DMR is still what I would use, but more with the 400mm and 560mm 6.8's Except i FEEL LIKE A TROMBONE PLAYER.  :-)
