There's some talk on dpreview in the panasonic talk forum about the possibility of this camera being released. By golly wouldn't a Leica version be nice?

You mean like with all other Leica tie in's you pay another $1000 for the red logo?

It does look like this camera is real, and with Leica badged lenses (unlike the Leica lenses designed for the current for Panasonic m4/3 cameras), and detachable EVF. And it should be terrific if Panasonic carry on the design philosophy of the G1 and GH1. I will have my order in as soon as a dealer lets me.

This camera, if released, takes care of everything I felt the E-P1 is missing. My plan was to get an E-P1 with the 20mm f1.7 and the 7-14mm (and maybe some longer zoom) for a trip to south america this winter but something tells me I'll be taking a hard look at getting one of these instead...

Isn't it great we have choices?  I'm looking forward to seeing the Panny camera. I'm using a G9 with a grip right now as my go-everywhere camera.

My favourite camera of all time was my Leica M3.
My worst camera of all time was my Leica M4P with a power winder.

I would gladly pay a premium for an M3 today. If my only experience had been with my M4P I would have agreed with what you say.

The current Panasonic-Leica Four Thirds lenses are not purely Leica designed; they are designed by a team lead by a Panasonic engineer, with some input from Leica. At least, this is what Panasonic has said on its web-site. Why do you think it will be different with Leica branded lenses for Micro Four Thirds?

Leica has an outstanding 20 million Euro loan from Panasonic, maybe to finance its ongoing participation in lens design for Panasonic cameras.


I agree in seeing no performance advantage to a Leica version of any Panasonic Micro Four Thirds camera, and hope Leica's stays to collaborating with Panasonic on lens design.
