Reimporting images with ?
« on: August 08, 2009, 09:05:39 am »

I was messing with my hard drives moving picture folders around. (I warn you do not do this !) I now have the ? beside most of the old folders. Looked up the process to reverse this  but cannot get it to work.
What I am doing is reimporting the missing file from the hard drive. I t then gives me the message that these files already exist. It asks if you want to show them in the Library. I click yes and the pictures are in the Library but I still have the message at the top of the screen that the file is missing or offline. For some reason Lightroom is not letting me re-import the origional files so that I can pp them in the develop module.
What am I doing wrong?

Dan,
Usually, Lightroom displays a "?" mark when files cannot be located (either off-line or moved or deleted). If you click on the "?" mark, Lightroom will give you the choice to locate the missing files (ex: "The photo “123456.NEF” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"). Just point Lightroom to the new location and it will try to re-locate all other missing images. You might have to do that for a few files.
Does it make sense?

Next time, when you want to move/rename files, do it from Lightroom and not from the Finder or the Windows equivalent.
