for some reason i cannot open any raw files in photoshop cs2. I'll click on a cr2 file, open with, and "camera raw" isn't even an option. I used to be able to, but now I just keep getting an error messege telling me its the wrong type of document. Any suggestions?

What camera are you using? It is probably too new for the ACR version that works with CS2.
I just helped a friend with this problem the other day. He had both CS2 and CS4 installed, and neither would open his raw files (from a 5DII and a 50D. I tried some of my raw files from four Canons I have owned: 10D (.crw), 5D (.cr2), and G10 (also .cr2). Only the 10D files would open in CS2, and all except the G10 files would open in CS4. Why not the G10? His version of Adobe Camera Raw was 5.0 (which came with the original installation of CS4) and the current version is 5.4. We downloaded and installed ACR 5.4 and now my G10 files and all of his raw files opened fine (in CS4).
Notice that my 5D and my G10 both use Canon's ".cr2" format, but only the older camera's files (5D) would open with older version of Camera Raw, and neither of these would open in CS2.
Be sure you have the latest CS2-compatible version of ACR installed. If that doesn't work, you may need to upgrade to CS4, and get the latest ACR.
If you don't want to shell out for CS4, and your camera is too new to be supported by CS2, there is a work-around: Download (free) from Adobe the latest DNG converter. This will let you convert your .cr2 files to .dng files, which is also a raw format. You can then open these in CS2.
