Sports vs Landscape digital cams

The Canon 1D MK II will obviously do the sports thing, that's what it's designed for.  As for "larger than 35mm" I suggest you download some full size samples from DP Review or Steve's Digicams and take a look.

I use the Canon eos 10d for my sport photography. I am also now looking to get a 1D mk2 (once the budget can support it).
It depends on the amount of money that you wish to spend on a camera.
My reason for going with canon were their superb series of lenses. I went for the 10d as it came out and have been extremely happy with it, both for landscape and sport. The 1.6x crop factor is a bonus for sport, but a disadvantage to landscape.
The 1d mk2 is certainly a better camera for sport due to it's increase buffer size.
I know that Sports Illustrated have support for 10d 1d mk2 and 1ds. http://www.siphoto.com/

If you's like to view any motorsport pics taken at Silverstone, with the 10d, visit www.gravelbed.com

New to the digi photo realm, and this board....
I suppose my first priority is a sports cam.
Question 1- Is there a digital that will shoot several
frames per second, at subject coming at you at say
90mph, where each frame will be in focus, and have
enough resolution for magazine spread(300dpi) use?

Question 2- While tiptoeing into the new more costly
format..if half about mpx, is there a cam out there
that might do the sports thing and still retain the detail
of a larger than 35mm format?

Lastly- I'm new to the concept of digital backs. Might
be a path for my nikon FM ?

Full of questions....thanks for the help.

Simply stated, you are looking for one camera to "do it all"...  I can tell you that the MKII is OUTSTANDING for sports -- the best thing going frankly -- and yet it has almost the same detail as the 1Ds for landscape.  HOWEVER, for ultimate detail in a portable package, the 1Ds or MF digital capture reign supreme.
