I want to print 16"x24" prints on 17"x25" paper. I tried to enter 17"x25" on the custom size menu but the image will not center on the paper.  Most of the image is off the paper.  Does anyone know how?

Couple of ides...

1) Once you set the 17x25 custom paper size, you need to select it in the page set-up menu otherwise it defaults to letter;

2) By any chance is your image's canvas size larger than 16x24?  If so, that would push the image itself off...

I don't have an answer for you, never having done what you are doing, but when you are troubleshooting, I suggest that you activate the print preview in the Epson driver, that will cut down on wasted paper if you are having problems.

What printer?  What OS?  What printer driver?

Some Epsons seem to have problems with "odd" width paper.  One hack is to turn off paper size checking, then lie to the printer about how wide the paper is using a width it seems happy with.  Then position the image so it is centered in the actual paper size you are feeding the printer.

Maybe the size of the  non-printable margins varies depending on the paper path and media type you've selected? 16x24 on 17x25 requires 1/2" margins all around.

I don't have the 3800 but checked the manual for my 4800(since they're similar) and found Printable Area:
Default cut sheet margins are 0.12(3 mm) top, right, and left, and 0.56 (15 mm) bottom.
If the 3800 is like the 4800 with regard to the margin, you will have to accept that it won't print with a .50 margin on one side.

What application are you printing from?

I have done this successfully, printing on a Mac from Photoshop CS3. One thing that is often overlooked is to choose Epson 3800 in every dialog box that offers a printer choice.

So, for a Mac driver from Photoshop CS3, in the print dialog, make sure the Epson 3800 is selected in the drop down menu for "Printer". Then click the Page Setup button.

Choose "Format For: Epson 3800" from the center drop down menu.

For Paper Size, choose "Manage Custom Sizes..."

In the Custom Page Sizes dialog, click the + (plus) sign to create a new paper size. It will be called "Untitled." Double click the name and rename it "Epson 17x25". In the boxes enter the Width as "17 in" and the height as "25 in".

In the Printer Margins choose Epson Stylus Pro 3800 from the drop down menu. The margins will default to 0.13 inches on all sides.

Click OK.

Back in the Page Setup dialog, under Paper Size, scroll all the way down and choose your new 17x25 inch paper. Choose the layout (portrait or landscape). Click Okay.

You should be back in the main print dialog window with your image showing properly in the preview. The rest of the print dialog should be the same as any print job -- select the paper, etc.

If you are printing from another application, or in Windows, you should be able to adapt these instructions. Good luck.

k bennett nailed it above. The problem is that you have to be sure you choose Epson 3800 as the printer in the Page Setup. If you don't, it won't center correctly, even if everything else is set properly.

I'm printing 16 x 24 on my 3800 with no problem. Frankly I don't see how this can go wrong as long as you enter the paper size correctly and make certain your preview page reflects this.

That is indeed where 99.99% of my image positioning errors arise from. So easy to miss.

I print 16 x 24 on 17 x 25 with a 3800 out of Lightroom and PS without problems.  It seemed straightforward to me--I"m on PC.  Its easiest with LR, but PS was not really a problems either--enter custom size, all other media info.  I've used normal path and also path for heavier one off paper in back.  Just check all your info to be sure its correct--printer, media type, etc.

Works good for me as long as I enter the paper width to 17" and the paper height to 25".  If you enter them in the reverse order the paper size goes to 17" by 17".  This, of course, is not good.
Good luck!
