Can't get Sync to work
« on: July 27, 2009, 12:49:06 am »

I've done a search but haven't been able to find an answer.  I make adjustments to an image then copy those which works fine, but then when I try to sync the adjustment with more than on image at a time it won't do it, although sometimes if after copying I change back to library and sync a batch it will work but not everytime.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Never run into it.  Sync works fine for me.  What's the nature of the error?  Is the Sync option simply not accessible?

I copy settings from an image, select a bunch of others hit sync and nothing happens, as far as I can tell I'm doing all the right things.

Ctrl Shift C to copy, Ctrl Shift V to paste (use Cmd instead of Ctrl if you're on a Mac). Best done in grid view.

However, you should be working like this - Auto Sync mode. In Develop, Ctrl/Cmd click the Sync button which switches you to AutoSync mode and from now on your adjustments will apply to all images currently selected. It's much faster than the copy and paste two step.

I tried it in grid mode and it worked, but it also switched back to library mode, is that supposed to happen?

Yes - grid only works in Library mode. You should also be able to do the copy and past shortcuts in the filmstrip while staying in Develop, but without seeing it's hard to know what you may not be getting right. Are you waiting long enough for the update to happen (LR does it when you aren't doing anything else). But get used to working in Auto Sync mode and you'll save a lot of effort.

Thanks for the tip on Auto Sync mode, much better.

Cheers

Its an "odd" behavior for many, but basically sync works in Grid but not elsewhere (other modules) the same way. Think of Grid as "work on many images at once" and Develop as "just this image". As such the behavior is the sync via keyboard is inactive outside Grid unless you access the filmstrip.
