Does anyone use PS 4x HDR?

What workflow do you use?

Do you use it as it comes, or with manual override?

I thought that it looked far too bland and low-contrast, and did the job manually with layers and a mask, but can you use the history to exert manual control?

...but all I was doing was to put the sky from one photo on to another, so I had detail in the shadows and a nice sky.

I totally gave up on PS for HDR (not counting multiple exposure layer blending by hand). The best results with HDR I still get from Photomatix, though you have to be careful not to overdo it with that. If anyone has a good workflow for PS that generates similar results I would love to know it as well.

There is a video about Photomatrix on Adobe TV, and it looks good... would it not be nice if you got all you needed when you spent £2,500 on photoshop!

Is it best to use this as a lightroom plugin if you have LR?

I tried to squeeze everything from PS HDR but no, it doesn't get even close to what Photomatix can do.

Picturenaut is great for very natural HDR. It is freeware:

Another one to consider,

http://www.farrarfocus.com/ffdd/shooting.htm

Tim farrar's method.  Take a while (at least for me) to work with, but results can be very rewarding.

Much more traditional dark room approach to HDR.
One note, some of the actions with Tim's set don't work with CS4.  I have mentioned this to him, but
as of yet, no update.  Still need to have CS3.  This is on PC side.  His action set comes for Mac or Win.

Thanks, everybody - does the free photomatrix basic do anything useful, or do you have to buy pro?
