I keep reading about mats and I still couldn't figure it out if the mat size should be identical all around (let's say 2-3") or you can have the sides at a different size than the top/bottom?
How much difference would be ok?
I'm trying to find a standard frame size to accommodate the photos that I shot. I bought a mat cutter so I have flexibility but I don't cut frames, and to wait for custom frames for each picture it's going to be difficult and more expensive.
From the 3/2 ratio that I have the sizes (at 240dpi) would be 17.87x11.87 and 10x6.65.
For the larger one with a 2.125" mat I would get 22x16, and with 3.125" 24x18.
For the smaller one I can use 2'' with 2.375" bottom for 14x11.
Any other way to get around it?
I don't crop that much, I try to get it right from the camera.
PS. I use thin frames (Nielsen 12) so the mat should look bigger
