Please help - dead Canon G9
« on: July 18, 2009, 02:13:16 pm »

I just bought two new Canon G9s and they are both dead after I inserted the same memory card into both of them.

Removing the battery and reinserting it doesn't make a difference. Nothing happens at all now when I press the power button.

Is there any way to hardware reset these? Any other advice?

The cameras both came back to life a few hours later. I have no explanation...

I'm glad.  After reading your post I took out my G9 and put it on the desk, waiting for the worst!

Is it possible that the shelf life of the batteries is at its end, and the batteries were simply wimped out?  That is the only reason I can think of that would have enabled the cameras to mysteriously come back to  life.

Li-Ion batteries have undervoltage protection with hysteresis !

A soon as the cell voltage goes sufficiently up, the voltage at the battery terminals will become available.

Did you recharge your batteries recently or did you wait a long time before recharging them ?!

That can be the explanation.

Have a Nice Day

They were brand new batteries, fully charged an hour before the incident. When the cameras came to life, they were using the same batteries. It was a strange incident but I'm glad that it wasn't permanent!
