From what I've seen on their "hidden" website, of interest it looks like there will be:

A new Black S70 (couldn't see what the pixel count as the door was open on the image).  This is a shame as I've just got a S60.

Also a 7.1 MP Silver Poweshot G6 f2.0-3.0 (couldn't see the focal range on the image).  I think this camera has already been leaked.

The same incorrect page I've seen other vendors post, who are all vying to 'get the jump' on pre-orders.  If you look closely, you will see (among other things) that all the pixel sizes for the various JPEG/RAW modes match a 6 MP sensor, not the stated 8 MP one.

This particular set of obviously inconsistent 20D specs have been cut-n-pasted all over.

So far, the only really solid information we have is the photos that folks managed to grab from the Canon site, before they wised up and removed/moved the pages or denied access.

Of course, all the folks that *really* know what is going on, are having to keep mum, until announcement day, because they are under NDA.   It must be really burning their chops that this got out like this a few days early, because all the major photography news sites that have been under NDA embargo have all been essentially scooped.

This isn't the first time that Canon has 'leaked' pre-release information like this.  If I was an embargo participant, I'd be mad at them, too.

And the lens is an EFS (digital only?) lens.  Things just keep getting more complicated in the Canon's lens range with DO, L, EFS and all the mods of USM and IS to understand before you buy.  Sounds a good spec on the camera, it looks like a 10D with the higher flash position and a push-button for on-off?

Only disappointment is that it is only an incremental improvement.. I think a lot of people were hoping for a 1.3 fov camera in the 10D form factor.. Ah well, such is life.
Any idea on pricing?

I think the US street price was expected to be $1300, which would make it about £1000 in the UK.

It does look like a modest, incremental improvement. Presumably there's no commercial logic for Canon to really push forward dramatically, all they have to do is stay just a bit ahead of the competition. Maybe what they're aiming for is a new product cycle that tries to get existing customers to upgrade with every second release, but at all times ensures that anyone entering the DSLR market at whatever level would rationally choose Canon based on price and specifications.

..Nope, moved again.. I think someone at Canon is going to get into real trouble for leaking this so early in the game? Either that or Canon has a lot more stuff up it's sleeve for Photokina. Traditionally, a few days before the event they'll come out with their new camera or lens line-up.  I'm hoping that some of their re-designed primes will be announced.
Not to avvert attention from the 20D, but any ideas as to what else is in store besides?

Looks like we have all caused a stir at Canon USA - they blocked access to (most) of their "hidden" web-site.

Pity, would have been nice to have seen the first images of the 1ds MkII !!

Hey Canon USA - you must be monitoring this site: dare you to make a posting!!

The leaked (or hoax) information has been posted at
http://bobatkins.photo.net/photography/digital/rumors.html

I am tempted to believe it, partly on the irrational basis that it confirms my expectations
a) Canon is living up to their stated intention of standardising on what they call "APS-C" format for "amateur" DSLR's, covering up to a quality level suitable for many quite serious amateurs, and a chunk of professional work.
By APS-C, they mean exactly the 15.1x22.7mm format ("1.6x") that they have used in every DSLR except the EOS-1D models, not creeping up towards something like 1.3x.

In particular, moving the EF-S lens product line to a higher level with items like a 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 EF-S ultra-wide angle zoom is revealing: Canon is with Nikon, Pentax and Olympus in treating the smaller DSLR formats as a serious, long-term part of the DLSR scene.

The 10D is discontinued. There may be a few left in stores which will be sold out soon.

The focus problem with the 10D was a huge exageration.

It existed, but only with a small number of cameras. It was based on the fact that some cameras (while within manufacturing tolerences) were being mated to some lenses which, while also within tolerences, were at the other extreeme of the tolerance range. This happens, and it happens to all manufacturers. It has since the invention of photography.

The only camera lens combination where this doesn't happen is with the Leica M series lenses, where each lens as actually hand calibrated and the true focal length is engraved on the barrel. You get what you pay for.

This is why some pros used to go to the American importers (most often Nikon, when they were king-of-the-hill) and ask to test a series of lenses to get one that's "perfect". This is no longer the case, but it used to be common.

The rest is simply net nattering and newbe neurosis.

So, forgetaboutit.

Latest Hidden Page Location

Very generous of me to spend my time on this since I'm a Nikon user, eh?

Perhaps the biggest disappointment here though is that if you shoot RAW the buffer has been REDUCED from 9 frames to 6. Rough math can compare the 10D to 20D : 9x6 = 54 and 6x8= 48, so maybe the buffer is roughly the same size, but in upgrading from the 10D I would certainly want something with at least an equivalent RAW buffer. Too bad.

There's an intriguing lens mounted on the sample 20D camera, a 17-85 IS f4-5.6. I wonder if this is all genuine or an elaborate hoax?
