MAC OS software automatically updated HP Z3100 drivers??!!
« on: June 25, 2009, 03:00:34 pm »

I am on a new machine--MacPro with 8 cores--and the latest OS: 10.5.7.

I have a HP Z3100ps GP (44").

3 weeks ago I did a fresh install of all the latest HP software for this printer: APS, Firmware, drivers, print utility, paper presets.

When I saw that the software update program wanted to install new HP drivers, I recorded the versions of my existing drivers (system preferences-->printers and fax-->etc.)

My old versions: (which I thought were the latest)

postscript:  4.3.3.109
raster:  2.3

I let software update install the "HP drivers" and checked the versions again:

new post script:  4.3.5.153
new raster: 2.3.1

The driver package on the HP website seems the same as when I did my fresh install several weeks ago. I can find no documentation on what might have changed.  I do seem to have new driver versions.   I can't find anything that look like release notes for any versions of the drivers.

Anybody have any insight into what is going on?  (I have not tried running the drivers yet.)

thanks
