Cambo info:
The Ultima 45 is Cambo's sophisticated 4x5" view camera, designed for high precision with digital applications, with fine geared movements on all movements, including lateral shift, rise and fall, swings, tilts and fine focussing. It features a normal bellows, 42 cm long monorail, a rotating ground glass back with graflock mount and spring loaded ground glass.

* Specifically designed for digital and traditional use
* Precision geared for "fluid smooth"focus and movements
* Robust yet compact design
* Unique film or chip plane "depth adjustment"
* "Virtual pivot "design for fully yaw-free variable axis tilts
* Converts easily and economically to 120 film formats
* Use lenses down to 47mm without requiring recessed lensboard
* Symmetrical design on front and rear for ease of use
* Full accessory range including sliding backs

After closely examining the view cameras in today's market, Cambo discovered that there wasn't a single camera designed specifically for the highly sensitive requirements of focusing on the small "chip"plane used in most digital backs. Digital imaging requires the extremely tight tolerances of ultra-fine camera movements. In order to fill this increasingly critical void, we created the Ultima.

Equally at home shooting with film, the distinctively designed Ultima features a unique film or chip plane depth adjustment. This adjustment facility allows the rotational axis of the rear standard to be precisely aligned with the chip plane, preventing the image from moving out of focus when swing or tilt movements are applied. The same adjustment is available on the lens standard allowing precise rotational alignment with the lens nodal point. This unique feature makes the Ultima compatible with all digital chip and scanning backs including Imacon/Hasselblad, Phase One, Better Light, Leaf and Sinar/Eyelike.

The relatively small size of digital chip backs - and the shorter lenses used, dictate the need for much finer focus and movement control. The Ultima has been designed with fluid-smooth, geared movements, progressive breaks and positive position locks that give precise, accurate fingertip control.

The camera features dual range focusing, depth of field scale, individual locks on coarse & fine focus movements and rise & fall movements, zero position detents with definite end stops, and high-quality aluminium body with durable metallic finish.

Includes standard bellows, split monorail, adjustable tripod mounting block, and ground glass back.

Here's a photo of the system, I didn't bother showing the box in the photo.  (It's just a big white box that says "Cambo".)

Details About This Chassis:
This Cambo 45 was purchased by me from the photography department at the Black & Decker company.  It was their backup Ultima 45, and was never used.  The company photographer did take the belows from this backup kit at some point however (for use with their other Ultima 45), so it was not included when I purchased the system.  I purchased another bellows on eBay to replace it, which is in very good condition.  So except for the bellows, the camera is new and comes in original box and packaging.  (actually I'll package it better than new, lol)

My plan for the camera was to purchase a digital back and shoot product photography, however circumstances are preventing me from getting a digital back so I've decided to let the Ultima go.  I assembled the camera to see how the movements work (very exciting camera to handle) and to make sure all of the parts were there, and temporarily attached an Ultima 35 adapter kit (not included) and shot a few test photos with my 1Ds2 (no more than 30), but that's it.  You'd never be able to tell this chassis apart from one never removed from the box, and it's been stored in a dry, cool, smoke-free area.  Would love to keep it if only I could get a digital back, the camera is a truly amazing work of CNC machine art and a stunning design.

Ultima Adaptability
The Ultima system is very modular, and this camera can easily be converted to the following:

- Use a Cambo or Kapture Group sliding / stitching back for mega-resolution images. http://www.kapturegroup.com/quad/quad.html

- Convert the Ultima 45 chassis to a $4,000 Ultima 35 system for digital SLR bodies with just a Cambo 2x3 front standard and an Ultima 35 bellows and mounting block.

     Ultima 35Review: http://shutterbug.com/equipmentreviews/acc.../0104sb_cambos/

- Convert it to a $4,400 Ultima 23 with just two 2x3 standards and a 2x3 bellows. http://www.cambo.com/Html/products_photo/L...2/Ultima_23.pdf

- Add a Betterlight scanning back and the resolution possibilities are endless, perfect for fine art reproduction. http://www.betterlight.com/

- Turn the view camera into a precision macro rail for your DSLR using an Ultima 35 mounting block and just one carrier on the monorail.

Price is only $2,000 (firm, I've already come down $400) plus shipping and Paypal fees, which is less than HALF of what the same system would cost from Calumet.
