I'll be in Cape Cod in a few weeks, specifically Yarmouth. Can anyone give me some photo ideas for this area?
Thanks,
Dan

I spent two months in the Cape Cod area and I found that the area responded very well to what I call the "Drive down almost every road strategy."  I say this because there were so many interesting photo sites that it would be hard to say which places to limit yourself to.  As I remember the Cape has a park map that was really helpful in finding potential sites of interest. You can probably find this map online to allow you to do some advanced planning based on your specific interests.  You will have to decide whether you want to spend time going out to the islands.  If you're only going to be there for a short time I would say do one or the other.  Trying to do a quick trip to both the cape and the islands will dilute both experiences, IMHO.

PS: You might learn something about cranberries before you head out.

At this time of year, the place should be full of painters (artists).  I'd just follow them around and even ask a few questions.  Most of them are also from various parts of the country, and can tell you about other areas too.

I'll be there for a 24 hour period. I've researched the lighthouses there and didn't see any that interested me.

Dan,

With only 24 hrs I'd suggest a drive from Yarmouth, through Chatham and up to Provincetown and back.

Check out my Seascape, Recent and P'town galleries.

The shoreline and accompanying hillsides between Truro and Provincetown are nice (for natural scenes and the famous cottage scenes). The park at Fort Hill (near Eastham) is great for natural shore landscapes and seascapes. And Nickerson State Park is nice for some non-traditional Cape scenes -- it's woods and lakes in the middle of the Cape (well, it's not "traditional" in the modern sense, but the landscapes are what the region looked like before European settlement).

Good luck and enjoy.

I'd head toward Great Island, which is next to Wellfleet. It's part of the CC National Seashore. I'd say that's where you'll find the fewest people. It'll be a good half day's worth of walking to see most of it; open woods of scrub pine, good views, nice tidal areas with billions of fiddler crabs to shoot at low tide, surrounded on all sides by beach. The best time is at low tide, but it's always a wonderful place to explore, no matter the tides. And nearby Wellfleet has nice shops and restaurants. Stop in at the CC National Seashore headquarters, get a map, and the rangers will tell you where the trails, etc. are.

The dunes out at Race Point in Provincetown are also worth exploring.

Well my trip to CC was a complete bomb. Two days of horizontal rain from an off shore northeaster. The traffic was horrendous and from the exploring that I did do I didn't see anything that would make me want to go back to photograph it.
On the good side, I did have one the best meals of my life at Skippers in South Yarmouth, Nantucket fettucini.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

So sorry to hear that Dan.  We've really been having miserable weather recently, only a decent day here and there.  I've not been able to get out much myself since the beginning of the month when I spent a couple of days taking photos of the rhododendrons in Sandwich.

Hi all,

I am going to spend three days on Nantucket and two on the Cape. Any suggestions for Nantucket?

Thanks very much.
