B&W, 3800 & Matte Papers tested
« on: June 08, 2009, 11:21:54 am »

I got some paper samples and gave them a test with some BW portraits using Eric Chan's ABW workflow with his profiles. (Visual subjective tests only)
Tested were Hahnemule Photo Rag 308, Crane Museo Max 250, Moab Entrada Fine Art Bright 190 & Natural 190. (All running MK ink.)

-As expected, the Museo Max had the most richness, deepest blacks, followed closely by Entrada Fine Art Natural. Both warm based.
-Photo Rag, while warm, looked quite dead. Shame. That paper used to really sizzle on my old 1280 dye ink printer, but it seems there have been no real advancements in dye ink stability.
-Entrada Fine Art Bright looked the whitest, as the other three are certainly warm based. However, for a portrait subject matter, the Bright looked a bit odd, almost out of place. Perhaps a different subject matter would be better for that paper.

Baryta tests to follow.
