Hi Folks:
Putting this in the Coffee Corner because to me it's interesting but one could easily argue that it's not photography. Basically they're using a rapid scan laser system to mark and record X/Y/Z coordinates on different sites, from the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy to the Mayan temple of Tikal in Guatemala. After collecting the information they can create '3-D' animations of the site, including flyovers, section by section viewing, etc. Neat stuff, anyway.
Mike.

To me that's art. And no need to make up stuff about how technology has expanded our concept of art...that's art in the grand classic tradition of Leonardo da Vinci and others who saw no particular boundary between science and art.
