Boundary Water

My boundary waters permit is for entry on September 19th at location "Lake One".  I'll be conoeing for about 5 days.  I'll also be staying near by in Finland, MN until Sept 28.  Now I live in Chicago but I lived in NE Minnesota for two years.  Would like to move back.
Aside from that, one way to get unique photos is to get up a little close to things.  I really enjoy this.  John Shaw's well-know book on close-up photography has great ideas and I'm copying some.
    It's a little complicated, but I'm taking a high-quality 2-element close-up lense and a short 12mm extension tube.
Autumn will be a great time to go.  Contact me if you like at

Home from the BWCA (Boundary Waters) canoe trip.  Traveled 6 days by myself and had a wonderful time.  Learned to portage a canoe.  Met some nece people and also spent a lot of time by myself with my camera.  Also had time for several days of day-hikes at state parks and forrests.  The fall color was two weeks late so it was only just beginning.  Now I have to get my film developed.  No digital camera yet.

Oh, no.  The fourm has changed before I had a chance to see if anyone had any ideas on how to photograph the Boundary Waters in fall.  I'm leaving on the 22nd and will be up there until the 30th.  If anyone had ways of beating the normal boring look you see in most of the magazines, please, repost.  Thank you.

We're entering from Cross Bay Lake and are going to head down to the Brule and spend some time there.  It looks to be a busy week, many of the permits where taken in the area I'm entering at.  It's funny that you are entering Lake One.  I know someone who is entering Lake One also.  I think on the same day as you, or maybe a day after.

We missed the colors again this year.  Last year we went on Sept 14th and missed the colors.  They were just starting.  So we went two weeks laster this year and missed the colors.  I got my slides back yesterday, I only shot 10 rolls over 6 days.  I had wanted to shoot 20.  I have some really nice pictures.  It is really amazing how much better I've gotten over the last year.
