Color calibration orientation on HP Z3200
« on: May 22, 2009, 02:53:43 pm »

I'm just starting to print on an HP Z3200. In the instructions, it says that it will orient the printing of the color calibration target to use up less paper, when using a roll. However, with roll paper (canvas, actually) loaded and indentified on the menu panel, it is printing the target as though it were sheet fed letter size -- wasting a lot of canvas.

Is there a control that I'm not seeing for printing the wide calibration target to save on paper?

Thank you, Sally

My Z3100 experience mirrors yours.

Doing a calibration does indeed waste paper, exactly as you describe. It's a horrible expense! However, when I do a profile (using the Advanced Profiling Solution), the printer makes full use of the paper width, resulting in no waste. I believed this was discussed at length a year or two ago, and HP basically said 'tough.' Apparently, they haven't fixed it.

Yup! lots of wasted canvas/paper and that liquid gold stuff they call ink.

Cut a stroke wide enough for the calibration target and use that, store that without cutting the printed target in the roll or the next roll and use it again when the calibration expires, good for proofing too.
