Epson 3800 Black & White Prints via Lightroom
« on: May 18, 2009, 06:04:34 am »

Hello All,
I am getting a new Epson 3800 this week.  My workhorse 2200 finally bit the dust.  I am looking forward to printing some Black and White prints.  I use Lightroom 2 for all of my printing.  I think I remember reading (could be mistaken) that their is some workaround for printing Black and Whites with Lightroom that was mentioned on LL.  Am I dreaming?
Thanks,
J. Paul

This web site has a lot of 3800 information, including B&W printing from Lightroom.

The 3800 prints b & w wonderfully.  You can either use Eric's (the link posted) method, or, if you tone, you can simply print normally.  I moved from my 2200 when the 3800 came out--primarily for b & w printing (had been using a RIP with 2200) and I've never been sorry.  When I say 'normally' I do mean with color management.

The "workaround" is if you're using the Advanced B&W option in the driver. In that case, when you print from LR, you need to select Adobe RGB as the "printer profile" which is accessible if you click the check box to include "Display profiles". If you want to tone your own stuff, and print with an ICC profile, then its just like printing color.

Thanks to all for the information about Black and White printing.  I pick up my new printer today.
