The hummer are finally back
« on: May 15, 2009, 07:38:15 pm »

My favorite subjects, hummingbirds. I had my first visitor about two weeks ago. Where I live in NE US the only hummingbird species is the ruby throated, but at least they are one of the most beautiful.

There's a guy here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pathunt/  who does some great hummingbird work with small flash units.  Other species as well, but I like the hummers the best.

Very cool!

... I'm planning to setup a hummer "trap" this summer with an off-camera strobe and a wireless shutter release.

I stalked one last summer and this was the best I did ... I'm not terribly pleased with the result.

Here's a couple I shot at Bolsa Chica with a Panasonic FZ50, 420 mm equiv. zoom, small sensor. If you go to the right places, you can get really close in the wild without the need to photograph from a blind, or have a feeder.

Beautiful shot! And I'd thought from the title that the thread would be about Arnie's cars...
