Unpacking a new lens

Unpacking my first separate lens for an interchangeable lens camera in 24 years, I see that Panasonic's instruction "Caution For Use" says "Do not carry the unit when it is still attached to the camera body."  I suppose I can imagine what they mean by that, but I wonder if even they know.

That one sounds like it should go on a list somewhere.  Right up there with "Do not iron pants while wearing them."

That classic prose came with the lens. Reading further, this time in the camera manual, it says that when using a lens weighing more than one kg, don't carry the kit around just by the strap. Taken with other warnings, it seems Panasonic is afraid the lens mount on the G1 isn't strong enough to support a 1.5 kg lens in all cases unless the lens is supported by something other than the mount. Since the GH1 body is thicker than the G1's, I wonder if they've beefed up the mount.

As long as those instructions weren't on a package of boxer shorts...

The best one I've seen in a long time came from the Orlando Sentinel. This was for a toilet seat designed to be attached to a trailer hitch. The instructions included this warning: "Do not use while driving."

I can hardly imagine a G1 with a 1.5kg lens mounted, it would be almost impossible to hold without also holding the lens too!

Regarding strange instructions.  I once heard a report of a mis-translated warning on a Chinese made kitchen knife which stated - 'Warning, keep out of children'.
Good advice indeed.
