I had a 86:01 Possible paper jam error this weekend on my Z3200.

I couldn't for the life of me understand what was going on.
I have been using the cutter in manual mode, and sometimes don't fully reseat the cutter. The carriage then touches or pushes the cutter back into a fully seated position as it does when it is cutting automatically.
After I cut the paper by hand, ( I usually leave an orange print head cap in the top cover sensor) The printer went through it's parc position routine but reported a paper jam.
I tried everything like passing a sheet of thick paper, looked at the feed sensor, looked at the parc pad, optical drop detector but nothing was out of place.

Tech support, instant response their opening time 8 30 , I phoned at 8 34 same service as last time , had me remove the cutter, clean the encoding strip, then open and close the print head access cover.

He explained the sensor in the carriage is overly sensitive and is easily dislodged. It is not marked in any documentation, but is 90% of the time the fault of this error, and after a real paper jam is very often dislodged which then leaves the printer in an inoperable error state. Simply opening and reseating the cover does the trick, just make sure if you have had a paper jam to really check that all foreign material is removed or you could create a serious problem.

Just wanted to share this as it is something that comes up often according to tech support.

Thanks, always good to know what could be a problem.

Was this the same problem you had initially with the media loading on the Z3200?

That is still a problem for which I think is due to thick paper that when raised while printing will cause a head strike. Seems that if you try to hold a roll flat against it's curl while it is printer you can set up a head strike, and the transport behind also if you try to hold the paper flat at the end of the roll , this too can cause a serious problem behind the printer in the feed path.
This lesson taught me to never hold the paper flat while printing, nor try to assist the last part of a very curly roll after it falls off the carton roll core even if it binds behind the core /roll holder and chassis.
I'm not sure if this has permanently damaged the feed system or not. I haven't been loading rolls lately so I can't say if the loading is still wonky.

I do know that when I took the housing of the feed path sensor it immediately become better at loading.

The new cutter was ordered but they have no availability at this time. Hope it comes soon as the auto cutter is sadly missed.
