Sinar Exposure 6.2 and Hy6
« on: May 10, 2009, 07:13:51 pm »

Hi,

I have a Sinar HY6 that I have just started using exposure 6.2 with an Evolution 75, I have not used the previous versions of Exposure because a lot of my work has been done on a Sinar P3 with Sinar M and I needed the liveimage window to be movable. I have a few questions, when the camera is in remote mode can I do mirror up form the computer, I could not find this option, also the colour options that were in Sinar Captureshop, the nutrilization slider and colour cast option is not in Exposure, is this not needed or will it be implemented.

Thanks

Hi Brett, (assuming it's you!)

I have asked for the 'colour alchemist' to be taken from CaptureShop and be put into eXposure, but I don't know if it will happen. Martin Widman is the new guy in charge of eXposure and is very responsive to issues - I noticed a problem with the crop tool and noise reduction in 6.2 and he has already fixed it and given me a beta to test. He is away for a week, but you can leave feedback and ask questions at exposure.feedback@sinarcameras.com or contact David Kay at Capture Scan Print (as I'm sure you know).

Don't know about the mirror up mode - if it's not in the Capture tab I don't think it is there. Do you need this for the live image? Doesn't it lock the mirror up when you hit CMD <L> to activate the live image? Or do you want to do it for shooting? Does the Hy6 have a mirror up delay mode like your old Contax in 2 sec timer mode? If not then I would put it on Martin's list at the above email address.

Regards,
Ben Dearnley

Hi Ben yes its me, Brett, Thanks for the info, I would like the mirror up for shooting, I had the camera on top of a scaffold last week at it would have been a lot better than running up and down, David told me about your requests for cropping and that it is a beta stage, that will be good for layout, and I am glad you asked for the 'colour alchemist' it has come in handy. The other thing I have asked about is using the LC shutter, I do remember at one time I was told it was going to work but it looks like the camera has no plug for it. The live drives me up the wall, even with an ND 1.6!

But it does feel things are moving in the right direction.

Regards

Brett

There is a tick box in the prefs for 'use LC shutter'... does it not work?

I know the box is there, but no way to plug in the shutter, I have asked David the question and he was going to find out as well, he thinks the tick box is not implemented yet.

Oh, OK. There is no cable yet for my Schneider electronic shutters either, or support in eXposure, but it is coming. The way these work without the LC shutter to get a HQ live image was to close the shutter whenever the chip was read out which avoided blooming or the purple streaking from overexposed highlights. It is effective in the older Jenoptik capture software and the same system when using these shutters is meant to be in eXposure eventually, although the constant clicking of the shutter can be annoying, not to mention the extra wear and tear on it. I mention it because I think I remember reading here that the Hy6 was going to have a similar system to get a high quality preview without an LC shutter, but maybe it is still in the pipeline or has been scrapped.

Thanks, have had a reply from sinar and the LC shutter wont be implemented on the HY6, it would be good to have a reliable solution to the live image, its funny what time does to the industry but I remember when stylist and art directors had to look through the camera and at polaroids, but now if they dont have it on set everybody thinks you have old gear! I shoot  most of my stuff on a P3 so live is good but have been enjoying using the Hy6 more and would like to keep going with it, but using HMI lights even with lots of ND still not a good live image, it would make life a little easier. The other thing I would like to see is a similar control readout from the HY6 in exposure to what you see from the Sinar M, its a duplicate of the camera LCD.

I was also playing with leaf and their software today and one thing I really liked is you can have a second window that floats showing the current image that has just been shot, you can then move this onto a second monitor, so art directors stylists etc can see it as you shoot, nice for keeping your computer from a large group gathering, or even to monitor your shot next to you at the camera.
