ipf6100 - Is this banding, or is this normal?
« on: May 05, 2009, 01:45:56 pm »

I'm printing some large (16"24" & 20"x30") toned BW photos on my very new ipf6100. I'm using Museo Silver Rag. The prints are gorgeous...I'm a very happy camper...

But when I look at a few of the prints from the side in the light, I see some banding. BUT it's banding in the sheen or gloss NOT in the actual image. The bands are perpendicular to the direction the head moves when printing and they are about half an inch wide, maybe smaller.

Even more strange is the fact that the bands extend off the image area into parts of the paper that aren't printed on. I've looked at blank sheets of my 24"x36" Silver Rag cut sheets and see no evidence that this is on the paper to begin with.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this might be and/or how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds more like head strikes than banding, with the marks extending past the printed image.  Here are a few links from the Canon iPF Wiki that may be of help:

You may want to ask your question on the Wiki:

In addition, a photo would be helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions. Upon closer inspection, I'm thinking it might be the paper. I have found some unprinted-on sheets that have the same pattern on them. Too bad considering each one of those 24"x36" sheets is almost $10!

Send then back to your supplier or the manufacturer.
I did.
Different make of paper and until I get feedback I will be fair to the manufacturer and not mention any name. But as a new iPF6100 user my supplier is very keen to help me get a quality product, and the paper manufacturer is interested in seeing the roll that appears to be faulty.
