Epson 7900 Job History
« on: April 28, 2009, 01:53:00 pm »

Hello !

I'm fairly new to digital printing and recently purchased an Epson 7900 printer. I am currently trying to get a better idea of ink consumption in order to calculate printing costs.

When browsing the printer menu through the LCD panel on the printer, I saw there was a "Job History" option. In there I can see the printed paper surface (in cm²) and ink consumption (in ml) of ten prints, numbered from 0 to 9. But that's all I get, no job date nor any details about ink consumption per color. I know it may seem quite obvious, but I'm not even sure these are the actual last ten prints I made. For instance, the last print à made was a 40x50 cm print, which equals to 2000cm². In the print history, neither job n°0 nor n°9 matches this data. Any idea what this means ?

So I wondered how 7900 users around here interpreted this information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And by the way, I've read that an older version of LFP Remote Panel used to display job history, but I can't find it in LFP Remonte Panel 2 (which came with the printer). Did I miss something ?

Thanks !
Guillaume.

I think it is the paper size, maybe even measured by the print head?

There's quite new application called LFP Job Monitor, which collects data from printer and shows much more details, like  print time, ink per channel per job, media, etc.

BTW, from what I have seen in the Job Monitor, it seems the black ink switches take a bit more ink than how it is described in the manual. The last time I switched it, it looks like it consumed about 10+ ml for MK->PK change. I think I will keep an eye on it.

You are correct in that an older version of Remote panel did have a very detailed job history list. So far the X900 series does not have the older feature. When Epson gets around to updating myepsonprinter.com there will be a much better way of viewing history. Of course, by the time they get that updated, from all indications, they will probably be charging for the service.
There is a print out you can do right from the printer only for those last 9 jobs at menu>test print>job information>print
it still doesn't give very much information, but gives you more than the menu

Yes, you're right ! Thanks, it makes much more sense now. Actually, I think the paper surface which is displayed is the printable aera on a given size of paper. By the way, job n°0 is always the most recent.

I'd love to see this program, but I can't find any result about it in Google. Are you sure it is the correct name ?

Oh right, I didn't even think about checking epson's website.

The download link is currently broken though, I'll try again later.

Thanks again.

I got the software. It was my firewall that was blocking access to Epson's FTP server.

Anyway, great tool, especially for the "save as .csv" option. Glad you helped me out with that.

I recommend this little program to all 7900 users.
