Everyday Carry for Canon G9
« on: April 28, 2009, 08:34:34 am »

Michael in his most recent essay mentioned the difficulty of carrying the G10 comfortably for everyday wear.  I've got a G9 which is, I believe, an almost identical form factor and This has been my solution.  It fits like it was custom made and rides on my belt right next to my cell phone.  I never notice it until I want the camera.  The quality of construction is first rate and that 'firehose' material is exactly as it sounds, based on the canvas covering put on firehoses.

I might also mention that they make clothing from this material which as become my standard for fieldwork.  Lots of pockets and wears like iron, though considerably more comfortable

Thanks for your post. I'll look into it.

I bought one of the g9 cases from Canon. Relatively expensive. More decorative and works with the grip glued on the camera body.

I also use a Lowepro slip lock case. It's AW for when it's wet out.

However, neither is as simple or as small as the case you show.

I use my G9 pretty much as Michael describes, as a 'notebook' to catch visual ideas.  As a result, I use it without any attachments and this case is perfect, it fits like the proverbial glove.  It would not work with anything attached.  As it rides on the belt, during wet weather it's protected by my coat and the material seems to be reasonably water resistant.   The big advantage is that the camera pretty much disappears until I need it and is very secure.

I for one will vouch for Duluth Trading Company's quality.  Since I was raised in Duluth, I've been to their shop many times.  The quality is top-notch, and much more traditional in styling than what you'll find elsewhere.  If I remember correctly, they hand-make most of their products.

I've got a G10 and carry it in a Lowepro Rezo 50.  I have the RRS L plate attached and it fits like a glove.  The case can be used with an included thin shoulder strap or attached to your belt (the belt is my preference).  It's a tight fit with the plate, but it's just perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Hi!  I use a Tamrac 5692 for my G9.  It easily hold an extra battery, extra memory chip, and a Ziploc bag in case I hit extra heavy rain.  The camera strap fits if I fold it on itself.  The bag can either be carried on its strap around my neck or I can use the belt attachment, which has both Velcro and snaps.  It's not small, and it can't ride on the same side of my belt as my cell phone.

I've been using a LowePro D-Pods 30 for my G9 with the added grip. Snug, but compact, and can be worn on a belt. LowePro shows the larger D-Pods 40 for the G9, but it fits fine in the smaller pouch.
