Do I need expensive tools to dry mount or laminate?

I'd like to protect an image for outdoor use and was wondering if I could apply some sort of film onto a print with a cheaper heat gun or something.

Yes, you do ... and no you can't.

You need a heat press which puts out an even heat and pressure to assure the proper adhesion. A heat gun can't do that.

Take it to a framer and pay them to do it right.

Anyone experience mounting to hardboard outdoors?

I was also thinking of using vinyl adhesive paper and liquid laminate with clearstar for protection.

Would this solution hold up to outdoor weather..?

You also want to make sure that the laminating film you use is not PVC based because it will be water resistant, not waterproof. You should use a polypropylene based film and make sure that your print is perfectly dry before laminating to prevent bubbles from forming beneath the laminate. Peter
