The glow of the reflection on the water adds a good counterbalance to the sky.

Love it - great shadow details, beautiful colors, very serene.

I like the composition and the color. But your attempts to darken the sky have left halos around some of the high-contrast edges. To me this is pretty distracting.

After looking at the photo for a few minutes, the halos don't bother me anymore. Initially, I had the same reaction (ie distracting halos).

I did notice the halos, but I didn't find them distracting at all.  I love the glowing sky!  I would like to see the building lightened a little, but the shadows maintain good detail as-is.  The composition works for me too.  Nice job!

Maybe I am missing something, I don't see any halo effect (circles I suppose?), other than what I would consider as rim lighting in a backlit scene- the same as I would get when shooting slide film. It is very fine image.

I agree it's a fine image but I don't agree that the haloes are a normal effect. Look at the white haloes along the rooflines in the background. That's the giveaway. I'd back off on the clarity slider. If I really felt I had to darken the sky I'd make a selection (easy job on this one) and use the selection on a masking layer in multiply blend mode. The haloes definitely are a distraction.

Thank you all for the comments. I agree with RSL about the white halos, and will do what I can to fix them. The halo around the mosque, I felt, was what I'd expect from a severely backlit building.

The shot was actually bracketed and combined using a rather crude method. I'll play with it some more: it shouldn't be too difficult (famous last words!) to improve it. I certainly think the image merits some time and effort!

I'll report back...

Jeremy, I heartily agree with that sentiment. I also agree that the halo around the mosque is okay. It's close enough to natural that if the white haloes are gone the picture will work.
