Printing centered on 8.5x11" with ipf5100?
« on: April 17, 2009, 11:41:44 am »

What is the magic for printing centered on 8.5x11" paper through the manual feed slot on a 5100? I'm trying to print a 10x8 image on FineArt Baryta and it's always off (even in the print previews) by almost 3/4". I spent 20 minutes on hold with Canon's tech support and they kept saying when you print manual on 8.5x11" it's "not really supported" and will be "off center". The solutions they kept offering were to reduce the image area until it prints right. But I want to print 10" of image on my paper

This seems crazy to me. Anyone have any solutions besides moving to roll paper?

Some Media Type allow a 3 mm margin for manual feed, but generally the
limit on the bottom margin is 0.9 inches.

Thanks John. Conveniently I'm printing using Special 5 which seems to have 3mm margins listed so I'll give that a whirl when I'm at home tonight. Why on earth the Canon tech support guy didn't mention this I'll never know...

Canon support is very good for getting hardware problems fixed, malfunctioning ink carts replaced, or setup of network printing from scratch.  For a lot of other things, the Wiki is a better source of information.

Yep, which is why I spent a good 2-3 hours on the wiki last night  Unfortunately I missed the particular page. What I might do is update the FAQ about "centering problems" to be clearer about this.

Not a bad idea.  I haven't done any work on the Wiki for quite a while, there is definitely
stuff that needs updating.  Maybe I will get going again...

I noticed it needed pointers to the new drivers, and a warning that the latest driver doesn't install on Windows 7. I'm happy to make some tweaks as I discover stuff while exploring my new beast. I also have a cool new suggestion for a printer stand for the sucker.

All of your input/additions/corrections will be most welcome.  Contributions from the members is what has made the Wiki such a great resource.
