Focus and recompose and AF tracking
« on: April 04, 2009, 12:52:46 pm »

So here is a question.  With the Panasonic G1 I've been using focus and recompose with AF tracking.  This works great with the CD AF as it uses the entire sensor for this purpose.  If you make the focus point small enough it locks on to the exact point you want and tracks it very well as you recompose the scene.  Focus even persists through zooming.

Now this doesn't work well with my X0D (and certainly my X00D) Canons.  Is this due to the limited number of AF points?  Or is due to inherent limitations in PD AF?

Another way of asking this is would this work with a Canon 1D series (or pretty much any Nikon above a DX0 series) with their oodles of AF points?

Edit:  This really belongs in the Digital Cameras, Backs and Shooting Techniques forum.  Anywho.
