contax lens for canon body / 50mm / conurus
« on: April 02, 2009, 09:45:21 am »

I have been going to the Conurus website off and on for a year now, waiting for him to convert the Contax N 50mm lens for Canon bodies. I cant understand his website; is the 50mm lens available yet? Is the contax 645 lens available as well? His website is confusing and he has yet to email me back.

If anyone has this lens for purchase, converted or not, please let me know.

The 50/1.4 conversion was available, but it appears he has such a backlog, no new orders for any lenses are being accepted as seen here:

The 645 adapter is still in development.

In about a week we will reopen and be ready to accept new orders.

Here is a video shot with the lens at f/1.4 on YouTube - the compression does not do justice to the impeccable sharpness, bokeh and rendering characteristics of the lens.

However, we would like to showcase our new movie aperture control feature. The lens automatically detects if the camera is in LiveView mode and it is possible to override the aperture of a 5D mark II camera during movie capture. The entire video was shot wide open at f/1.4.

You can get the same aperture control with any manual lens, e.g. the ZF or C/Y mount Planar 50/1.4, so this may be old news to you. However, the idea here is to have the best of both worlds: auto aperture diaphragm for stills, manual aperture control for movies. As of today, using a Contax N mount lens converted by us is the only way to have both.
