mamiya 645 AFD II VS Hasselblad V for an aptus 22... ?
« on: March 30, 2009, 08:06:52 pm »

This year, i will probably buy an aptus 22 or 54S for my architecture and object jobs... mounted on an arca Fline 69 and 35/55/90 apo sironar digital + 150 apo sironar S
I will need an other MF camera fir hand held shoots.

Is anybody out there did a test between Hasselblad V vs Mamiya AF lenses ?

Will you go for an aptus 22 universal mount or a mamiya 645 mount ?

I have the 60CF allready, and i can borrow hassy lenses from friends...

i first thought that the uviversal mount was the way to go (easy to find sliding back, and others camera in second hand for it), and i used to love zeiss lenses for film
but the V system is dead... so maby i should go for mamiya ?

If you go with Mamiya you can also use a 28mm lens. With the H you can use the 35mm upwards. The 28 on the H is only for Hasselblad. Also do you need leaf shutter lenses?

The two systems only overlap with the 150mm of the lenses you mention. Very different lens offerings. The 75-150AF for Mamiya is superb, a zoom as good as primes.

if i remenber well there is Af and AFD lenses ? big improvement ?
thanks

are the 45, 55, 80, 150 not D version good values for money for an aptus 22 (second hand) ?

Hi
I used to own a 500CM & now use the Mamiya AFDII & the lenses are excellent. I do not miss the 500CM or the V series. I have the 35,45, 55-110 (most used), 80, 120 & 150 all are non D lenses. I bought most of my lenses on eBay . In order of sharpness I would say:
120
150
45
80
55-110 ( I use this lens the most )
35
We have shot many AD jobs with the Aptus 22 including Tim Tams which were super sites (Hugh) shot with the 80mm. The Aptus 22 is still one of my favorite backs.

last question before the big decision...

with an aptus 22 V version is it possible to turn it in vertical or horizontal position, or shall we turn all the camera... that is to say no "portrait" without 90° finder ! ?

V +
Zeiss glass
all speed synchro flash
waist level finder ( but ok for portrait ?)

Mam +
Mam lenses keep improve and old ones are cheap
Bodies improve
AF and metering
no cord

Looks like Mam is a clear winner, but i like the way a V handle with waist level finder...
thanks

I'd go for the Hasselblad for the sole reason of the WLF. Leave eye-level for dslr's.

Didday,

I’ve been using Mamiya lenses for 24 years and will till the day I can’t pick up a camera.

I have to give credit to Mr Carl Zeiss in creating the myth that his lenses a superior.

Cheers

MTF and resolution can't describe a lens...

you should compare a zeiss contax 50 1,4 to a canon 50 1,4 on a 5D II to see what i mean.

i used to have a RZ, a Rolleiflex, a RB, and two 500CM... sharper lenses where the RB KL and RZ but Zeiss Hassy lens were better for tone values.

Try to find on the net, pics shoot with the Zeiss 28 2 contax "Holywood" to see what i mean !

So, what about my question about the aptus V Orientation ?

Hi,
Why not buy the 645AFD for the shots were you need the AF and portability of the 645AFD and get a RZ for the studio work.
I shoot with both and find the RZ superieur in any way to the 645AFD/III, the nice thing is that you can switch the back from the 645AFD/III to the RZ within seconds.
The adaptor plate for the RZ is the most expensive I believe arround 650US.
When you look on KEH you can pick up the RZ with lenses and a WLF for almost nothing.
I bought the RZ67ProII with lens, WLF and filmback for app 950 US.
The lenses are in the 150-300 range.

In image quality the RZ with the Leaf Aptus22 is hard to beat.

Yes, you can rotate the "V" Leaf back (lift&attach) on the V-camera.
