Gekko Papers
« on: March 25, 2009, 12:53:43 am »

Thanks for the article on the Gekko photo papers. I have been using Gekko Green and Red for about two years now on my Epson 3800, having purchased my first batches of these papers in Tokyo on my business trips there. It's gratifying to see that Mitsubishi has now brought them to North America, although I would be interested to find out where they are sold.

My experience with Green has been very satisfying and I agree with Michael's comments that this paper has a very nice finish, almost like a traditional semi-gloss silver gelatin type paper. One thing you failed to mention Michael is that this paper is also a Baryta paper. At least, it is advertised as such on the box I have from Japan.

I agree that Gekko Red is somewhat less interesting but I have found it useful in fine art printing where it is comparable to a high quality matte paper, with a textured finish that is very like watercolor paper.
In all, nice additions to a wide field of fine papers now available.

Thanks,

I neglected to mention that Green was a Baryta paper, and have now updated the article accordingly.

Any sources for this paper in Canada? The product in the link is only 10 packs, which seems like samplers, and is 2.5x the price of Gold Fibre Silk (in a 50 pack).

I saved $200 by switching to Gekko.
