Using RRS L-bracket with pan/tilt head?
« on: March 24, 2009, 02:54:19 pm »

Does anyone know if there's a pan/tilt head that can make use of the Really Right Stuff L-bracket for cameras? I have the RRS BH-55 ballhead at the moment, but find that sometimes I just want to move one axis, like tilting up, without losing the horizontal level. Thanks if anyone can help out.

It might be a little expensive but look at RRS panorama pieces.  Once you level the ball head all your adjustments can be in a single plane.

You can put a RSS clamp on almost any Pan-Tilt head made.

which 3 way head do you want to use?
why not just get a Markin or Acratech (my option) clamp and screw it down to the plate of the 3 way head.
this is what I used to do when I had my Manfrotto 410 gear head.

Edit I see Eric Staud said what I wanted to say first...

I know what you mean by that, i have this ballhead as well and i am happy to use it, the best option for me if i fix one plane for example the vertical one and i want just to move in horizontal axis then the best head i was using is my 804RC2 on my manfrotto tripod [3-way head].

The Manfrotto 405 geared head was actually the one I was thinking of using, but I do have the basic 3047 pan/tilt somewhere in storage. Does the screw of the quick release plate fit the bottom of the RRS clamp (that's what I seem to understand you're suggesting)?

The Manfrotto 405 has an integrated QR clamp of its own. However you can remove this and replace it with a RRS lever clamp which fits perfectly. See here.
