Anyone installed yet? Opinions?

Thanks, Bill

Your post is some days old now, Bill. Did you do it yourself yet?
I wonder what the difference is, things seem to work all right here (Z3200 24" on PC). Any idea what the remark "load the latest driver first" means? I was not aware of a new driver...
Keep me (us) informed, please.

I really wish the changes were relayed to people who host the pages with firmware upgrades. I am downloading it now but I don't think I want to upgrade before someone from HP says why we should,

New z3200 firmware- any experiences?
« Reply #4 on: March 26, 2009, 05:15:34 am »

HP sent me an email yesterday saying that they were improving their email alert system to include, um, alerts, for a change.  Since signing up for their notices, when I got my Z3100, I've gotten nothing but marketing info from them.  You would think that it would be a given that people would want to know about free "improvements", and would be good for customer service to spread the word.  We will see if they use their email channel to deceminate valuable info to their customer base, in an effort to try something different.

Actually, I did get the notice of this update (just that it was available, not why I should install it!) through the alert system. That makes it about 10-20% information, 80-90% marketing since I signed up. Not too shabby, HP!

Downloaded but NOT installed it yet.

Some time ago I subscribed to HP Email Communications.
The subscription was confirmed, and I just returned the next mail to the sender:

I'm a registered Z3200 user (24", Vista32) and learned through my favourite user forum  that there is new downloadable firmware for this machine. None of us Z3200 users is willing to install it, because there is nothing known about the improvements, effects, etc. It would be nice to communicate through this channel, or at least as an explanation close to the download item, what one can expect after installing this new firmware, if there are any drawbacks, what it resolves and so on.
Please inform at your earliest convenience.

If I hear/learn I'll keep you informed.

You never will. HP is the less communicating company I know - except for commercial junk.
Support in France and Belgium is below sub-par, bordering disingenuity, with uttterly curious information, to say the least, regarding legal matters on warranty - not so in the UK, I 'll admit, where it's much more supportive.

Any ideas yet on what this FW Update is intended to address?

Are any Mac users able to select Additional Papers or Custom Papers print media in in the print driver? I have found that none of those paper types are selectable, but are only greyed out, in the print driver unless I print from Preview or Text Edit. Printing from Photoshop or Lightroom renders those papers unselectable and my interaction with HP Enhanced Tech Support over this issue was very telling: They suggested I print my fineart photography from Text Edit or Preview, stating that the problem clearly lies with Adobe.

This is old news I believe, but one doesn't suppose that this firmware addresses this issue?

My fear : HP won't update their firmware/drivers for the Z3100 now and concentrate on Z3200.

The idea is the 3200 doesn't need many firmware updates other than dot maintenance and media presets.

They will maintain the 3100 just as much as ever. There are a lot more 3100s out there than 3200s and many still under warranty. I can't say why some firmware updates were not well checked but they have showed good faith and tried as hard as they could to keep on top of problems, and releasing updates for the 3100. I see no reason or any signs of abandon on HP's side . When I saw them in December they were working on both the 31+3200 series, as always, no signs of letting up at all.

A long term goal, plan that they do the best they can with what they have, even when sometimes  it doesn't seem that way on the surface.

The last firmware updates seemed to have worked well, and we didn't see many reports so it must be solid.

The 3200 has very few glitches, so I will live them until I dare try the new one, unless they tell me what is in it that I cannot live without>
