Advanced photography seminar and workshop question...
« on: March 23, 2009, 02:03:23 pm »

Hello,
Can anyone here suggest a good advanced photo seminar or a workshop worth taking?
I'm particularly interested in studio lighting and photography, but interested in other types of photography as well.
I often feel my style stagnates and I'm taking same photos over and over again, so I've been looking for a way to mix
things up and take my photography to the next level.

I've taken several workshops and I always enjoy meeting and talking with other photographers, but I am a little tired of listening about continuous vs flash as well as soft vs hard light...  Are there any workshops designed for people who already know that?

I'm located in Southern California area, but could travel if I find something truly special...

Thanks a lot!

Since you're here in SoCal, you might want to check out the Julia Dean workshops:

Workshops are at various levels so there might be something of interest to you.  Full disclosure - I took one of their fine art inkjet printing workshops (taught by Mac Holbert of Nash Editions) but haven't taken any of their other classes.

If you're looking for a landscape photography workshop that concentrates on working in the field from pre-dawn to after dusk, I like Steve Kossack's trips:

Best,

Paul

Thanks Paul!

I am actually planning to take some of the classes offered through
http://www.juliadean.com/
There seem to be some really interesting ones, but most still look like they are designed mostly for beginners...

I'll make sure to look up Steve Kossack.

BTW, Has anyone had any experience with Mark Halper's classes?

Thanks!

Also, if you're looking to break out of a creative slump, you might also look into Jay Maisel's workshop in NYC.  It sounds very interesting.  Michael did an interview with him in a recent Video Journal.
