5dmk2 settings
« on: March 22, 2009, 04:53:54 pm »

Hi  All,
My 5dmk2 keeps reverting to default (?) settings often after I've reformatted a card.  The most common is the IQ that I always leave on RAW.  It keeps becoming Large jpg.  Why is this happening?

Thanks,
Michael

I've never seen this behavior on mine. Did you upgrade the Firmware? A newer version was released just after the camera.

I can not answer the question, but I can ask another one: why do you keep reformatting the card?

Doesn't everyone (well, obviously not)? It's faster than "Erase all".

Could be that, rather than the camera resetting itself, you are pressing some button and wheels combination unadvertidly? For example, as I have it set up, pressing the center button of the rear wheel activates the quick settings and a turn of a wheel may change the active parameter (once I had a session shot in sRAW due to this, since then I make sure to have the EV as the active paraemter)

Does it forget the setup while the battery is out being charged?
If so, then there's a little watch battery that needs replacing.....

I mention this as my 5D2 reset back to factory settings once while the battery was charging over night.
