battery geek ?
« on: March 22, 2009, 02:35:36 pm »

Hi,
I wonder if any of the photographers here have experience with www.batterygeek.net ?
I ordered something not so cheap in January which would take 15-20 days to come in, but till today no product.

I tried mailing them more than a dozen times and called them (call center) for a few times but I get no response what so ever.

Paypal can't do anything because the original date of sale is more than 45 days ago. Very clever from batterygeek because normal shipping time would be 15-17 days making it over the 45 days.
I read alot of positive remarks about the company but I find it strange that we get no response what so ever. We even tried several mails from hotmail accounts to make sure our mails did not get stuck in a spam filter.

Anyone similair experiences ?
Or maybe can help with a solution ?

Greetings,

Most of what I found was very positive, and the funny thing was that the first contact was very fast and accurate, so I was confident to order.
It's a shame that a company doesn't respond to anything, I don't mind waiting longer of course if a product is not yet available but at least let the customer know.
Now I'm afraid I'm ripped off.
I just hope that somehow the forum posts help, it's my last desperate attempt to be honest

If you paid Paypal with a credit card, just call your credit card company. They will most likely refund the money and paypal will have to deal with battery geek. Paypal has the worse customer service.

I have ordered 2 batteries from www.batterygeek.net with Macsafe cable.
The package come fast within one week.
The batteries is good.

After using for months batteries itself is fine.
But all 5 macsafe jack melt.
I have contacted them but they refuse to claim all.

So I bought macsafe cable for airline and modify to use with the batteries.
It works fine just expensive to get the original macsafe.

If you want to use with mac, don't get their cable.

I ordered a battery for the MacBook Pro from BatteryGeek and waited...and waited....and waited.  The need for it had passed at that point and I simply wrote them and canceled the order.

I just bought my 4th battery from them just 3 weeks or so ago.  The tips as one person suggested are not the longest lasting. i have perhaps 5 dead ones.  So if you buy from them buy extras.  In the past they have been a little hard to get a hold of for me as I emailed a few times with no reply, but if you do manage to receive their product it does work as advertised with the caveat of the mac connector.

A new option is http://www.quickertek.com/products/al_macbook_charger.php

based on new technology from Boston-Power.com

HP laptops are available with Boston-Power batteries.

That strange, You order something, never got it and the CC say's tuff? My CC has always backed me up when I had problems. What was the reason?

I would post this on all the photo forums and make a BBB complaint in their home state.

According to Mastercard there is no such thing as protection against not delivering companies.

How is the email response for the other people who are ordering there without problems, I have counted the mails and send 17 over the last 2 weeks from 4 different accounts to make sure we did not get caught in a spamfilter.

I think it is a one-man-show.  I have 2 batteries from them and I have had no issues.

Good luck.

What do you mean by one man show ?
|Battery geek itself ?

I contacted several dealers from them and they claim they are not selling any more due to heavy problems the last few months.
According to them Battery-geek is now run by one person and he is destroying the company by not delivering replacements of broken batteries and not delivering orders.

The sad thing is that in the past it appeared to be a good firm.

If you mean one man show by me, you are wrong.
I would never intentionally hurt a company online when there is the slightest doubt in my mind, but I've done all I could to try to contact them even through some customers of them who are no also not receiving any responses anymore.
There are also more and more people posting about their problems and as mentioned before some dealers have stopped completely.

Sure there is, if the charge appears on your cc statement and you never got the goods you can 'query' or 'challenge' the transaction. The cc company should then require the merchant to prove that the good were shipped and supply invoice/cc statements etc. If they cannot, or do not, then the money is frozen and not paid by the cc company to their account. You usually do not have to pay the amount on your statement whilst this is being resolved. If they can prove it was shipped, you have to prove you never got it.

It's complex but as a cc merchant myself this has happened to me when the mail delivery lost stuff I had sent. I got a challenge from the cc company but was able to prove dispatch.

If MC say this is not the case I can only imagine it's because you paid through paypal's cc facility, not directly using a cc.

Good luck.

For what it's worth, I bought one of those things for my 17" MacBookPro, for location work. Sounded like a great idea in theory, but in practice, it created massive heat; was a pain to keep running and charged; sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't; acted like a giant anvil on location; and after a while, would just not take and hold a charge. I finally threw it in the trash, and felt relieved, even after writing that large check. I'd suggest simple extra batteries designed for your laptop, and get one of those chargers that recharges two batteries at once. Much more efficient, on location.

You might be having trouble contacting this company, or, this might be The Universe telling you to just throw the thing in the trash, and get on with your life.
