Canon 1ds Mark II (17mp) memory card problem

You need to look at the manual more closely. Press the display button, and rotate the rear dial until the folder icon is highlighted in green. You'll then see both cards and their folders and be able to switch between them.

I read this with a wry smile. I too had not got to the page in the manual that tells you how to do this when I went to the UK Focus show. On the AOP stand, I thought I would shortcut by asking a pro photographer (Adam Woolfitt) how to do it and he just said RTFM (he had only had his 1DS MKII a week and did not know himself, to be fair). Needless to say, I did RTFM, but I think the above is really amusing. I obviously have a soul mate in Andreas.

Hello all!

I just returned from NY - I bought at B+H some memory cards.
I have a Canon EOS 1ds Mark II (17mp) - it works darn well
with the Lexar CF 2GB (80x) cards -

but unfortunately I can´t switch from the CF card to the SD card
(SanDisk Extreme III 1 GB) and vice versa.

Both cards are o.k. - they work with other cameras. I can use
the SD card only when I take out the CF card and then the
camera will switch automatically to the SD card and I can use
it. The same procedure is needed to use the CF cards.

I am aware of the 4 GB problem MR recently discovered. Is there
anyone who has seen the same problems? Or is there a simple
solution except waiting for a firmware update?

Dear Jonathan,

Touché - I really haven´t read the manual. Yes, some guys
here would think "this guy bought the best canon camera and
can´t read the manual" - well they´re right :-) RTF stupid really
applies to me...

so thank you very much - the "problem" is now solved.
