Brilliant Matte Papers, Epson 3800, and Paper Feed Issues
« on: March 12, 2009, 03:48:13 pm »

We split up our Epson 3800 printers so that one prints only coated prints and one that prints only matte prints to save on black ink costs. For the past year, we've been running this setup. A few months ago, the matte 3800 printer started having paper feed issues. The printer would have problems grabbing the paper in the paper feed tray and the feed rollers would just slip and spin. So, we had an Epson come in, take a look at the printer, and replace the entire paper feed assembly saying it was worn. Well, after about 6 months, the printer is having feed issues again! I'm putting the blame on the Brilliant Matte paper that's coated and double-sided, since the coated printer hasn't had any issues. I'm guessing the coating on both sides is causing the feed rollers to wear faster. Has anyone had similar issues?
