P65+ image editing system
« on: March 11, 2009, 08:14:12 pm »

Michael,

Great article on the Phase One back, but I've got to ask, how are you manipulating those files?  What computer system are you using in order edit the files and how has it impacted response times?  Absolutely great article, even from someone who can't afford the "value" in it.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,

Many people deal with files larger than P65+ files on a regular basis:

- all the people scanning 4x5 - typically in the 80+ mega pixel range even when scanning only with an older Imacon,
- all the people doing stitching - typically over 100 megapixel for stitches made from the latest breed of 20+ MP DSLRs,
- all the people using scanning backs

Depending on the software and OS the focus will be a bit different, but at least 8GB of RAM and a fast disk system (multi-disks with RAID for scratch and storage) are obvious ways to enhance the user experience when dealing with large data.

Cheers,
Bernard
