Ho,

The only Elephant I see in the MFDB makers world is a Black Brute with RED on the side-- just over the Horizon---

Dave,

Though the video as you suggest might be done in jest, Guiliano Bekor is not free of Phase connections as he did one of the Phase 1 campaigns for their new branding promotion.

Regardless, it would be nice to see medium format companies, in jest or not, spend more time building up the professional digital formats* (I don't know if you can call the digital backs medium format anymore) rather than just beating on each other.

Each company has their pluses and minuses and they are all documented here daily.

It also would be nice if Phase one had direct manufacturer representation on these forums, as up to now they have left it to the dealers to answer the hard questions.

As was mentioned it's interesting that nearly every video I've seen of a photographer shooting with a medium format camera it is usually a Phase back on a Hasselblad body.  That should tell both companies something about the professional market and it should illustrate that someone is sending a mixed message when it comes to branding.

If I was any medium format company I would take a look at MAC and how they brand.  Annie may be shooting a profoto poster with a Nikon, but at least MAC had the smarts to hand her an AFI and have her shoot a few frames and it wasn't just a Leaf back on a Hasselblad body, it was the whole leaf package.

Now to cut Blad a little slack on branding, I must admit their Victor Magazine is a very impressive sales piece.  It almost makes me want to buy a Hasselblad.

All the best,

BC

Quote from: Leonardo Barreto
I was thinking about Leaf backs that have fans, not really familiar with H backs, but I applaud the fact that they don't have them, I wouldn't want one on my back.

And regarding the energy use, I don't have the tables, but was referring to the feature of Phase backs to maintain the camera on sleep mode in order to keep it coo --without a fan-- and that a side effect was that they consumed less energy, but I confess that all of this thinking is not backed by up to date comparative tables. I wonder if such data exist...

Well it is hard to comment if you are unfamiliar.

As for energy use, Phase one is not necessarily unique in terms of power saving.  Any electrical product using lithium batteries with high demands will have multitudes of power management happening in the background.  Its a speciality in itself as we (and I am sure Sinar and Leaf) spend many R&D hours on eeking out the last nth degree of power from a source.

Regarding fans; We've been using them in digital backs since 1994 when other companies either did not exist or were making scanning backs.

I can guarantee that using a fan has never presented an issue with neither power consumption nor dust. To date, except for liquid cooling, this is the most efficient way of dispersing heat out of an electronic environment and as a "side-effect" it gives the Aptus the best Live Video quality of all backs that don't use an LCD shutter accessory, not to mention the fastest sustained capture rate, tethered or not.

And yes the Aptus chassis is designed as a heat sink.

Now can we go back to African Elephants and their influence on modern technology?

Phase One does indeed have direct manufacturer representation here. I'm not sure who, but I do believe someone does try to answer questions and attempts to offer any available clarity for the general status of the situation.

Dave & Doug,
Check the CI website, as it appears to be down. FYI.

Nick,

Drew Gardner was not in that video.  The photographer was Giuliano Bekor.  The man in with the boyish face was Murray Elliot.

And this was just having some fun while out on a shoot.   No harm no foul, and it is not an official P1 video.  In a way, it was mocking the P1 videos.

Life is too short to get upset over silly things gentlemen.

Turns out our website could not survive an elephant! How ironic!

It's back up. Thanks for the heads up.
