28-135mm suitable for fashion?

well Any lenses are suitable for fashion, but longer lense are more suited for making models appearing less rounded.   Hi I'm not Micheal, but I am David.

Thanks for the replies! So any lense will work.Can I ask what lenses you use for whatever situation? I heard that portraits are good around the 105-115mm range. I guess the compression of a telephoto is desirable to make the models less round. Will the 17-40L be too short and make them look too fat? Does anyone have any experience with the canon 28-135 f. 3.5-5.6 and 10D or 300Rebel. Thanks alot!

thanks Sergio for the great advice! Is that 70-200L IS mounted on a digital body? I'm just wondering if the 1.6X on the 10D will make it too long (112-320mm). I lust after all the L lenses, they're just so expensive! I will slowly be purchasing them. What is my best first lense? The 24-70mm or the 70-200mm?

I agree with George, both are very good. But I have to give my vote to the 70-200, I have experience with the f4 and f2.8 non IS version and they are a joy to use, you can control DOF wonderfully!  And the make very good candid photography, because of the conversion factor on my digital rebel  you can be in front of people several feet away and get great shots, without them being aware of you. If fashion and model photography is your main intrest I would go with the longer lens.

Dear Michael R. I am about to purchase the Canon 10D and am wondering if the Canon 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS is suitable for use in fashion photography. I will be making prints up to 11x14. Or should I save up my money for the 24-70L. In your review of the former you mentioned that it would be suitable for well lit outdoor work only. It will be in be in studio with flash lighting. Thanks for any advice.
 I was extremely impressed with your exhibition at the Picto Gallery. Thanks for the inspiration! I can't wait to make some big prints on my Epson 1270!

I am not Michael either but I shoot fashion a lot. As David states ANY lens can be used. IF you are shooting catalog work where you need to really show detail and texture try to get hold of the best you can get.

There are no rules as of which lenses are better. I use wide angles a lot and they are great, but beware of distorting people. Depending on point of view it can increase some desirable features as make a model look like she has longer legs. In the same way it can make her look as if she had a huge nose! If used with care they can produce strong images. Try to get the 70-200 2.8 IS. That is one of the best lenses I have ever owned, and for fashion the IS becomes indispensable. It's a high productivity lens despite it's size and weight.
