Rankin re-did Cecil Beaton once with film and once with digital. It's not about sharpness, it's about the look.

C1 Pro version 3, Mamiya RZ Pro IID with a Mamiya/Phase mount Phase One Digital Back. Not a bad combo.

That said, if you're looking to replicate a period photo you should use period equipment.

I wonder if having a more enigmatic look while shooting film had anything to do with the fact that she had yet to sit in a hot-light cake for hour(s?).
