Epson R2400: How do I clean the platen/rollers?
« on: March 08, 2009, 01:29:48 pm »

Ever since I made a print with lots of pure black, I have been getting black streaks on one side of my prints. The first one was really bad, the next one was bad, the third was a much smaller streak but still a ruined print.

How do I clean this? I assume it is the platen or rollers that have excess ink on them. Some of the Epson paper I have includes a cleaning sheet, but it warns to only use it for the Pro 5000/5500.

What a wonderfully perplexing question!  the disposable paper towel you use in the kitchen to mop up spills and clean stuff.  Loo roll is too likely to break up and you need to be able to fold it firmly and perhaps wrap it around something.

Please let us know the "American" for kitchen roll though - I'm intrigued!

Us Americans calls a paper towel a "paper towel". It's what I guessed you meant.

There is a certain and undeniable logic to that, I admit!

Dan - had a bad day yesterday and read that as Ohio - a lot less uncomfortable than a mistake I made at the doctors in the morning!

Yeah, and the worst of it is that over there they call it a 2100, when over here we know it's really a 2200.

Dan,

I am assuming the 2400 is pretty much the same as the 2200.

To clean the rollers  put a sheet of plain paper in the sheet feeder, wet with alcohol or Windex about three inches wide  all the way across the sheet. Use the paper feed button to run this through the printer. Repeat with clean sheets until they come out clean.

If it is from buildup on the print head here is my method. I use strips of paper towel cut, not torn, about 1 1/2 inches wide, folded in 1/3s to about 1/2 inch wide. I work them under the print head, put a few drops of Windex on the towel until wet but not dripping. I slide this back and forth pullling gently against the surface of the print head. I repeat this until they come out fairly clean, then repeat with dry strips a couple of times. print some nozzle checks and you should be good to go.
Also, while the print head is moved off the park position, use a long Q tip and Windex or distilled water to clean the o-ring on the capping station. Sometimes paper fibers and in my case kitty hair can keep it from sealing properly.
