Anzo Borrego State Park: Best Wildflower Locations
« on: March 03, 2009, 12:58:10 pm »

Long time reader of the Luminous Landscape, but this is my first ever post on the board.  Seems like a wonderful source of information!

I am planning a trip to Anzo Borrego State Park in Southern California to photograph wildflowers and desert landscapes.  I will be going March 13-17.

Any help in answering the following questions would be wonderful:

     1.  Where will the best wildflowers displays be?  (Note: I will NOT have a 4WD vehicle.)

     2.  Where can I find the sands dunes with Desert Sand Verbona blooms on them?

     3.  Any recommendations for sunrise/sunset locations...?

Also has anyone stayed at the Borrego Valley Inn?  Is it nice?

Many thanks!      Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.  I plan to bring my wide angle zoom (Tokina 12-24mm) and my Macro zoom (Nikkor 70-180mm) for my Nikon D300.  Hopefully that should cover me.

Thanks Framah.  I have been checking out the DesertUSA and CalPhoto wildflowers blogs.

They don't really recommend any specific spots for sunrise/sunset, which I was hoping someone at LL might know.

I've heard that Coyote Canyon can be really nice for flowers.

Anyone else have any recommendations?  I'll be staying at Borrego Palm Canyon campground.

Thanks!
