Capture One 4.6.2 Released
« on: March 02, 2009, 03:25:20 pm »

http://phaseone.com/Content/Downloads/CO4.aspx

Pros
- Support for Sensor+ on P65+*
- Improved Stability, especially on 4-core and 8-core macs
- Nikon D90 Tethering
- Minor Bug Fixes

Cons
- No 5D II Tethering (planned for 4.7)
- Live View does not work well at refresh rates slower than 1s

As always we recommend waiting a few days or weeks before updating any production machines. We also recommend doing a full uninstall of any previously installed versions of Capture One 4. Technically this is not required unless your updating from 4.5.2 or earlier, but is a best practice.

As shameless self promotion we will be having another series of Capture One Online Screen-Sharing-Based Training March 17, 18, 19, 20, and 24, 25. Details on the classes here.

*P65+s already in customers hands (as noted to those customers in advance) do not have sensor+ enabled. We will know the exact time-table and procedure for those customers to receive sensor+ in the next week or two.

Canon (for many years now) and Nikon (starting in 2008) have an SDK for 3rd parties to connect to their cameras. Sony does not have an SDK.

So the first step is for Sony to make an SDK.

Until then (if it happens) you can use the Hot Folder functionality to pseudo-tether to any camera which has a tethered capture program provided by it's manufacturer.

C1 with the hot folder is fairly fast on the a900. It is almost as fast as the Sony software which is not an elegant solution, especially on the output.
On lightroom the hot folder is painful slow and and not very suitable for fashion and beauty work. yet for my taste it has the best user interface and functionality, even slightly better than Aperture. the web gallery panel, with direct upload on ftp which can be done in parallel while you are doing other tasks in lightroom, it is hard to beat.
But so far C1 is still the best solution I have found for tethered shooting with the a900. It would be great if it could be as fast as with the Phase backs. Shooting with a phase back and c1 is a joy. You just plug the cables set a folder and it plain works. you plug and unplug the cable as you wish. turn off the camera. no problem.

On a different note, I have plaid with Phocus and the Hasselblad files and although it is OK, it made me appreciate C1 even more. C1 despite its little quirks, which are almost sorted out, gives a better experience for shooting and processing the files.

Thanks for the info on the A900. Been thinking about adding that to my system. So far no issues with .2 loaded on both machines

c1 probably has the best output (with Raw developer) for the a900.
you will love the a900. if you get the Zeiss primes and Sony 50mm1.4 you will not regret it a zick (also the 70-300 g and the 24-70mm are great). the thing just plain works.
the only pain is the proprietary flash socket, which require to carry always adapters for pocket wizards or other remotes. the ebay adapters are just fine.
it has a slim shutter lag compared to the 1d canon bodies, but on the other hand it focus better than any of those.

I was wondering about my skyports with it. Seems like it should work with the shoe Sony sells

Heading to get a look at it again at PMA on thursday and also a demo of the Leica S2.

Honestly C1 works pretty much the best with almost every camera i ever had and there are many in that statement. LOL

I have used it with PW and MicroSync and I know someone who regularly use the a900 with Skyports.

BTW using one of the Sony flashes to trigger studio strobes or a PW, it can be sync up to 1/8000 with Elinchrom, Broncolors etc...
