Mamiya 645 lens mount
« on: February 22, 2009, 05:57:12 pm »

I'm working on an adaptor to mount a Mamiya 645 lens, the 80mm f/1.9, to a 4/3rds camera.  One thing that is puzzling me is how the lens rotation is stopped or locked. On the 4/3rds mount a pin on the camera side pushes into a hole on the lens mount. I'm not seeing anything like that on the Mamiya lens.

Are there any technical drawings of the mount available online?  If not could someone post a snapshot of the camera mount?

Why not try one of these?

I haven't used one, but had an adapter to use Pentacon mount lenses on EOS Cameras. Worked fine (and showed the resolution restrictions of the glass), fun to experiment with.

P.S. Sorry, realized too late, that it's for 4/3

Quite a few lens are adaptable to the 4/3rds mount because of its relatively short flange focal distance, so one of these would work by using a Nikon adaptor in the middle.  However it won't work for me because I'm adapting the lens for tilt and swing as well as shifts. The 24mm difference in flange focal distance between 4/3rds and Mamiya 645 should allow this. Here's a link to lens mount specs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lens_mount

My current setup has all the movements in the back, but the mirror box (or deepset sensor) only allows about 15 degrees of tilt and/or swing which isn't enough in the macro range.  I can also focus to infinity with Nikon lens but there's no room to add front movements with these lens.

Here's one of the first images I've taken using the back movements and while it has better DOF than a normal shot, it needs more tilt and swing to actually get everything in focus:

you just need a mirex !

http://www.mirex-adapter.de/tilt_shift_adapter.htm

Nice try    , but it only has 10 degrees of tilt and no swing.  There are no adaptors currently on the market that will do what I want, although several systems like the Cambo X2 come close. I really just need to understand how the Mamiya 645 mount locks the lens in place. I can't deduce this just by looking at the lens

If two of the three little screws holding the mount on the lens were not frozen in place, I would just build a lens plate that screwed directly to the lens.
