And a Camilla Akrans story:

http://www.nytimes.com/indexes/2009/02/22/...e=22akrans&

I am really pleased that a *newspaper* is rocking this level of fashion photo editing. I think the news media used to believe that fashion was light weight, air headed. But at least the Times takes it seriously.

Josef, yes some of that Paolo stuff is really great. Lots of nice stuff there.

Narikin, you should have a look at some of the images here, and the nice photo editing before you let your pessimism take over. This is  some of the best photo editing in the industry IMO. And by the way, I have friends who shoot for the Times and it is surely not just some dark ploy to use fashion to sell papers.

Agreed - the NYT magazines are really on a roll with great photos/photo layout. There was a fashion spread shot in winter on Hokkaido last year which was breathtaking.

...but am I the only one who thought Kander's "Obama's People" spread was really disappointing?

You are not alone ;-)
Tucker's blog has many posts about that Kander project:

I thought the images were fine, but what I enjoyed more were jeff Riedel's political images in the November issue of GQ.

No sweat ;-)
While I know this is an equipment forum, I do think it's very funny that if you post about actual gorgeous photography, no one wants to talk about it. But post about some missing feature on your 40mpD3xHDp and you will get 100 posts in 24 hours. And these will be exactly the same posts which are in just about every other thread...I'm just saying, it's funny. If I want to talk seriously to someone about becoming a better photographer, or a more successful photographer, not once does MP, chip size, etc. come up. Not once.

And by the way, one guy who I think is just out of control awesome is Javier Vallhonrat over here:

The lighting, mood, etc. IMHO Wicked.

And one more for the road: stunning, classic pinup-style photos of Doutzen Kroes in the latest VMan magazine; the pictures are all over the web. It's refreshing to see nudes done tastefully in a magazine for men (as opposed to men's magazine) - although VMan is not exactly mainstream like Maxim or FHM...

Wow feppe, thanks. I don't often look at VMan because it seems to always have some weird looking dudes with weirder hair cuts. But this spread with Doutzen is pretty hot.

I am a huge fan of Javier too. He hasn't done any work recently though. Has he retired?

OMG that is so true. I read a transcript of an interview with Nick Knight today. He was asked about the film/digital thing and he said something along the lines of: " what difference does it make? Do you ask a writer what type of pen he prefers? It's a tool for the job."

re: Javier retiring: I am pretty sure all of those Vogue UK just showed up (two in the top row and one in the second row.)
