Dimage A2 CCD Chip VS Sony F828 CCD
« on: June 24, 2005, 03:11:46 pm »

Sony produce the (same) sensor chip for all those cameras, and a few more by now.

Color is "added" by using a filter in front of it (since the sensor by itself only measure intensity).

Most cameras have a three color (RGB) filter, while Sony decided to use a four color one on the 828. Presumably to get better accuracy.

RE:

There are now, or will be by early April, 2004, a total of five crossover digicams using the Sony 8 Megapixel 2/3" imaging chip. These include the Sony F828, Olympus C-8080, Canon Pro 1, Nikon 8700, and the subject of this review the Konica Minolta A2. Since these five cameras all use the same chip,
----------------------------------------------------------

The above is quoted from  the Luminous Landscape review of the Dimage A2. The review of the Sony F828 at Steve's Digi Cams states the the ccd used in the F828 is the first 4 color ccd.

If the Dimage A2 uses the same ccd as the F828 this implies that the Dimage A2 uses the 4 color ccd.  This is not addressed in the review of the Dimage A2.

Can some one address / clear up this for me.

Thanks
